Ronny Xin Yi

comedian and actor. Chieng is currently an executive correspondent for The
Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also created and stars the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student, that premiered on ABC Australia (Australia) in 2017.
Chieng was born into an Malaysian Chinese family. He was born in Johor Bahru.
From 1989 to 1994, he resided in Manchester in New Hampshire. Chieng appeared
in an annual comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia in 2013 together with
Trevor Noah. Two years later, he was asked to audition for the correspondent
role on The Daily Show, which Noah hosts. In July of 2016 Chieng was selected
as one of the 10 Comics to Watch by Variety In October 2016, Chieng appeared on
The Daily Show to give his opinion on a Jesse Watters Fox News segment deemed
by many as racist. Chieng is known for his expletive-laden criticism of the
segment on the conservative network. Chieng also revisited New York City's
Chinatown in which Watters have mocked the residents and conducted interviews
more respectfully in Mandarin as well as Cantonese. The video went viral and
received media coverage in the Washington Post and Slate In his youth, Chieng was
a Singapore Sea Scout. He has not been able to get citizenship or permanent
residency in Australia despite having lived in Australia for ten years. Chieng
made the joke that he was intolerant of dogs on 2018's Daily Show. However
Chieng later claimed that he is "100% not afraid of dogs" in an
interview.
