Susan Sarandon Bio
It was 1968. Democratic Convention, and there was a casting request for a movie with many characters for youngsters who disrupted the event. Joe (1970) was offered a role in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected for the role, despite having previously studied acting. His wife Susan was offered a significant role.That performance was of Susan Compton who was the daughter of ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). In the movie Dad Bill kills Susan's drug dealer partner and then makes friends with Joe (Peter Boyle)who is the bigot who is working in an assembly line and who is a collector of guns.Five years later, Sarandon made the film which cult classic fans have come to recognize her character Janet who is involved with transvestite Dr. Frank n Furter in The The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Sarandon took on the role of Annie in Bull Durham (1988) more than 15 year after she began her career. She took a flight on her own from Rome, Italy to Los Angeles. She stated "It was such a great script... it removed a number of myths and challenged America's notion of what success is". "When I got there I spent a bit of time with Kevin Costner, kissed some ass at the studio and went back to my plane". Her relationship with Bull Durham (1988)) supporting actor, Tim Robbins, had produced two sons by 1992 and placed Sarandon in the awkward position of having to leave her home and taking on roles that really challenged her. Four Academy Award nominations were received in the 1990s. The award for the best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995) was also awarded. Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980), was her first Academy Award nomination.
